Our story begins with someone who holds an indescribable place in my heart. My creative inspiration, my role model, my grandmother, and my namesake: Mary Ellen Callahan.
Throughout the 27 years I was lucky enough to spend with her, she taught me how to be curious, to be creative, when to speak up, when not to, to be fiercely loyal, to accept everyone as they are, to laugh as much as possible, to find beauty in the mundane, to be a silent observer, to love deeply, to forgive and forget, and lastly, to believe in myself.
Long story short — she is my ‘why’.
So, that brings us to Callahan Creative. It was never a question of whether or not I should honor my grandmother when starting my own business, it was a matter of how.
Hummingbirds often represent loved ones who have passed, but they are also symbols of resilience, adaptability, lightness, endurance, beauty and celebration of the little things in life. Not only are these the values my grandmother instilled in me, they are the values I will uphold and carry throughout this creative space.
This symbol, combined with a name that has always aligned most closely with my identity, is something I am very proud to introduce to the world.
This is Callahan Creative.
